IV. The Young Learner

• The students we taught were between five and seven years old; they had so much energy and were always trying to participate in the class because they liked to be listened. They like to work and learn a lot. Also, they misbehave sometimes, but they were learning new words and new vocabulary. They really liked to learn the things in a funny and enthusiastic way; they liked the songs related to the topic, and they were paying more attention to the class when they were learning a song.
The ability that every kid has to develop his skills is not the same for all the kids. For example, some of the kids work pretty fast and understand everything that they have to do in a specific activity, but there are others that ask a lot because they don’t understand or it can be possible that they can be distracted easily. But the important is that at the end of the class, all of them learn something, I know that they don’t learn everything but they learn at least something.

- The book show many characteristics that a young learner can have. Some of the same characteristics that our students have and the book mention are:

·       -Young children are enthusiastic and positive. Our students were enthusiastic and positive too, they wanted to learn a lot an every time they were like “and now what?”

·        - Young learner cannot decide for themselves what to learn. Is our responsibility as a teacher to know what we are going to teach.

·        - Young children are often happy playing and working alone but in the company of others. In our classrooms were so often that children played and worked alone but always they shared the materials that they were using with others.

·    -They have a very short attention and concentration span. During the class they payed attention only for a few minutes, but only that minutes were necessary for them to learn unless a new word.

·        -They can talk about what they are doing. They can explain easily what they are doing and also why are they doing that.

·        - They can tell you about what they have done or heard.
